About Us
The Mediation and Advice Project CIC began its journey in 2012, rooted in the heart United Kingdom Eastern, South East, and London regions. The founders saw first-hand the growing need for accessible, comprehensive support systems for individuals facing complex social, legal, and personal challenges. Determined to create an organisation that provided real, practical solutions, we launched a series of vital services aimed at improving lives and empowering communities.
Initially, the organisation offered mediation services, helping resolve interpersonal conflicts such as anti-social behaviour, harassment, and neighbourhood disputes. This hands-on approach in resolving local issues laid the foundation for what would become a far-reaching organisation, dedicated to bridging the gaps in social welfare.
Expanding into Social Welfare and Legal Services
Recognising the urgent need for social welfare support, we developed a Social Welfare Advice Service, offering general and specialised legal advice on social welfare issues. The service extended further to provide court representation for evictions, and repossessions, offering individuals facing challenging circumstances a much-needed advocate in the legal system.
Empowering the Vulnerable
The Mediation and Advice Project CIC became a dependable service for the most vulnerable populations. We launched a comprehensive Advocacy Support program, assisting individuals with learning difficulties, mental health conditions, and disabilities to exercise their rights and make informed decisions. To tackle growing debt problems, we initiated Debt Advice and Money Management services, guiding individuals through debt relief orders and bankruptcy procedures.
We also recognised the importance of home visits for those unable to access services independently, offering in-person assistance with forms and applications, particularly for welfare benefits, and creating a befriending service to combat social isolation. We extended our services to prisons, offering specialist housing and money advice to prisoners, and later expanding into conflict management training.
Specialised Support for Vulnerable Groups
With a strong commitment to empowering marginalised groups, The Mediation and Advice Project CIC developed services like the Eastern European Women’s Support Group, which provided essential advice and support for women facing domestic violence, hate crimes, and victimisation. The organisation further evolved to offer specialised legal advice to in-patients with severe mental illness, helping them navigate the complexities of the Mental Health Act and ensuring their human rights were upheld.
A Growing Legacy of Community Support
From its inception, The Mediation and Advice Project CIC was dedicated to serving both individuals and communities, providing advice and support for parents and carers, the elderly, and unemployed adults through programmes for parents and carers with Early years childfen, Money Talks, and Pop-up Pals. These services enriched communities, offering not just guidance but a sense of belonging and support for those in need.
A Volunteer-Driven Movement
The organisation’s ability to make such an impactful difference was largely fuelled by the hundreds of dedicated volunteers who worked alongside the team. Over the years, volunteers from diverse backgrounds have contributed their time and expertise in every aspect of the organisation’s work. From retired professionals offering advice, to law students helping with case management, and community members assisting with home visits, each volunteer played a crucial role in expanding the organisation’s reach.
Volunteer mediators, advocates, and befrienders formed the backbone of the organisation’s services, often going above and beyond to support individuals in times of crisis. Their passion and commitment allowed The Mediation and Advice Project CIC to provide a level of personalised support that many large organisations could not offer.
Innovating for the Future
By 2020, The Mediation and Advice Project CIC had firmly established itself as a trusted and integral part of the community to a diverse range of populations. Its Mediation, Communication, & Conflict Management course, aimed at youths in some of the UK’s most deprived areas, provided crucial life skills during the pandemic.
The Pivot into Social Innovation
In recent years, The Mediation and Advice Project CIC recognised that the challenges communities face are constantly evolving, becoming more complex and intertwined with broader societal issues like inequality, climate change, and global economic shifts. To truly drive long-term change and empower communities, the organisation realised that it needed to go beyond traditional support models.
As part of this transformation, The Mediation and Advice Project CIC became Global Social Innovators. This transition allows the organisation to not only help people navigate immediate challenges but also to inspire creative solutions that tackle poverty, inequality, and access to essential services in ways that are efficient, equitable, and sustainable. By partnering with global actors and leveraging shared knowledge and resources, Global Social Innovators is now at the forefront of promoting cross-sector collaboration, ensuring that innovation drives the solutions to today’s most pressing challenges. Today, Global Social Innovators CIC continues to evolve, growing from its roots in mediation to become a multifaceted support system, helping individuals navigate life’s challenges while empowering communities to lead through social innovation.
